Action Motion at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir is a relatively new indoor playground in Singapore. When I say playground, I don't mean those kiddy ones with slides and ball pits but one with challenging Ninja Warrior-like obstacle courses and climbing walls.

Frankly speaking, I didn't know if I would enjoy Action Motion as I'm not the very sporty type. Well, I'm pleased to say my family and I ended up having so much fun there. My girls like obstacle courses and climbing so Action Motion was right up their alley. I wasn't very good at the activities but I still gamely tried them out and had a great time!

Overall, I'm very impressed by Action Motion and I would highly recommend this attraction to older children, teenagers and adults. Here's our review and 10 things to know if you're planning to head to Action Motion at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir.

1) What's at Action Motion?

There are 5 zones at Action Motion.

i) Rapid Motion

There are two levels in this Ninja Warrior-like obstacle course, with the second level more challenging than the second.

In the first level you can be expected to do some balancing, jumping and climbing, basically obstacles that require some speed and agility.

The second level is more challenging requiring a lot more arm and core body strength to complete.

My girls fell onto the nets at most of the obstacles on level two and it was hubs who completed most of the obstacles. That said, he found this level very challenging as well.

Still, everyone agreed that the two levels of obstacle courses are good fun!

ii) Motion Mesh

This is a net maze where you climb in from the bottom and then have to find your way out of the maze. It's not extremely challenging or difficult but still takes effort to walk and climb the net! Good exercise I would say😉

iii) Valo Jump

This is an AR game using a trampoline. A lifelike avatar of you is mirrored on the screen opposite and you have to jump and move your arms to collect presents or defend your castle against birds, depending on the game you choose.

This is probably my favourite zone at Action Motion. I'm really impressed by the technology used and very amused when I see my avatar playing the game on the screen. Most of the games are really fun and I went a few rounds on this!

iv) Ascend Lab

There are 10 climbing walls here with varying difficulties. Here you have to wear climbing shoes and harness before climbing. Don't worry, an Action Motion specialist will be there to help you with them!

As my girls like wall climbing, this was right up their alley. Here's Big E (in the background) tackling one of the hardest walls there.

v) Valo Climb

This is an augmented reality climbing wall where you can play various AR games by climbing on the walls, like following a required path or climbing over grips without touching certain objects. The games are pretty fun but climbing with socks instead of shoes were a little challenging for us.

2) Are there age and height requirements?

You need to be taller than 125cm and weigh not more than 120kg. Children aged 12 years old and below are highly encouraged to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

3) Is it safe?

I feel safe at all times. Props to the Action Motion specialists stationed at the zones who are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, guiding us at certain difficult stations.

But as with all physical activities, you can expect to fall at times like when you lose your balance at obstacle courses. There are safety measures in place like ball pits and nets to catch your fall and many of the obstacles are padded, but Hubs had a fall on the balancing beam where he fell onto the beam rib first, resulting in a bruise. So just be prepared and cautious at the same time.

4) Is this something children can handle?

I think there is reason for the height requirements as the obstacle course may be a bit challenging for young children. But other than that, I thought the rest of the activities are quite all right for young ones.

During our session, there were two siblings who looked to be around 9-11 years old. They weren't accompanied by adults but were having a great time on their own.

Overall, I think Action Motion is very suitable for older children like tweens, teenagers and adults.

5) How much?

HomeTeamNS members pay $25, HomeTeamNS affiliates, $30, and general public, $35 for a 2.5-hour session.

You need to book according to time slots. They are at 12pm–2.30pm, 3pm–5.30pm and 6pm–8.30pm on Tuesday–Friday. For Saturday, Sunday, eve of public holidays, public holidays & school holidays, time slots are at 9am–11.30am, 12pm–2.30pm, 3pm–5.30pm and 6pm–8.30pm. Action Motion is closed on Mondays (except on public holidays & school holidays).

Tickets can be purchased online from HomeTeamNS website.

6) Is it necessary to book online? Can I walk in?

Yes, you can walk in ahead of the sessions to buy tickets at the door but it's advised that you pre-book them because events are sometimes held at Action Motion and capacity may be full because of that. Otherwise, you can give the venue a call to check ahead.

7) Is Action Motion crowded?

Not at all when we were there at 12pm-230pm during the school holiday on a weekday; there were just eight including my family. I heard from the staff that Action Motion is typically less crowded during the morning and lunch time slots, and generally on weekdays. On weekends, they may have up to 40-50 people per session and you'll have to queue for the activities.

I think our enjoyment of Action Motion was also a lot because it wasn't crowded when we were there such that we didn't have to wait long for activities and could go again on the activities we enjoyed. So if you can, try to go during weekdays and/or in the morning or during lunch time.

8) Are lockers and water coolers available?

Lockers are included in your admission. There is also a water cooler and toilets in Action Motion itself.

9) What to wear?

Comfortable sports wear are required. Action Motion socks with grips are also required and are included in your ticket purchase.

10) Where is it located?

Action Motion is located at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir, Unit 02-07, 900 Bedok North Rd, Singapore 479994.

FB wouldn't let me embed my video here but here's the link to a reel of our Action Motion highlights! https://www.facebook.com/reel/992916285357549

BTW do note that the Action Motion website mentions a Gamifier system, which allows players to tabulate their scores and timings in a leaderboard. According to a staff, this was being upgraded while we were there, hence we did not use this system. That said, it didn't affect our enjoyment of Action Motion, and we were content to try out the activities at our own pace and time.

We had so much fun at Action Motion we would definitely return again, and given that it's indoors, we can visit rain or shine. In fact, I'm already checking it out for holding future birthday celebrations as I think this is something my tween and teenager and their friends would enjoy😉 We'll be back Action Motion!
