Growing Feelings: A kids’ Guide to Dealing with Emotions about Friends and Other Kids is chockful of good friendship advice for kids and adults. Plus, a giveaway of this book!
As our children grow older, friendship becomes a big part of their lives and friendship drama is no longer uncommon. So, I’m really glad to come across this book I feel is great for my tween and teen - Growing Feelings: A kids’ Guide to Dealing with Emotions about Friends and Other Kids by Dr Eileen Kennedy-Moore & Christine McLaughlin at Experal Singapore.
Written by a psychologist, and parenting and health writer, this book is chockful of practical advice for children for when they encounter friendship issues, like when they feel awkward at social gatherings, worry about a friend being mad, get angry with a friend and feel lonely. It teaches children how to handle difficult feelings, communicate effectively and build meaningful friendships.
The prose is straightforward and easy to understand, and the illustrations engaging for children.
While the book is recommended for children 6-10 years old, I reckon tweens and teenagers would find this useful as well, in fact, its advice and strategies are also great for adults (friendship problems don’t end after childhood years, right?).
Your child can read this on their own but the authors advise parents reading it with their child so parents can connect the ideas with the child’s real-life experiences. This is a book I think every kid should own!
