There's been a flurry of activity with regards to my new book, My BFF is an Alien!
I know there's been a dearth of reviews on kid-friendly places on my blog but I think you can guess the reason - we've been avoiding crowded places due to the COVID-19 virus. But on a happier note, there's been a flurry of activity with regards to my new book, My BFF is an Alien!
Thought I should just summarise it into the "Top 5 latest happenings" with My BFF is an Alien!
1) I'm on Epigram Books' blog - Do the Write Thing!
Having been a financial journalist for most of my working life, it was refreshing being interviewed this time round. Here's the link for the interview where you can get the "behind-the-scenes" including my inspiration for and the challenges of writing the book.
Here's a snippet of it😉:
"The story centres around two female leads: Abriana and Octavia. Why did you choose two girls to be your main characters?
I’m a mother of two girls who will turn eight and ten this year; so I’m always on the lookout for good local middle-grade books for my girls who love adventure stories. There are many good ones out there but I noticed that many adventure stories often have male protagonists and sometimes I do wish that more featured female lead characters that are relatable to and even role models for my daughters.
This was also why I wanted to write a story with kickass female lead characters going on adventures, tackling school and navigating friendships."
2) People are receiving their preorders!
As you know, the book is now available for preorders and some advance copies are available at Epigram Books and Huggs-Epigram Coffee Booksop. And I'm hearing that preorders are being fulfilled really quickly! Thank you to all who had preordered and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the book!
Honestly, I'm a little jealous seeing the copies people have received from their preorders, because I haven't got my author copies yet! Boohoo!
3) I signed 20 copies of my books and got some lovely shots taken!
I was at Epigram Books' Toa Payoh office recently to sign copies of the books for giveaways and take some lovely publicity shots...
...which reminded me of a funny story. Not too long ago, my girls and I were at a bookshop looking for a newly-released children's book. When we found it, my youngest flipped through it, then exclaimed, "Mama, someone drew in the book!" What?! I was ready to report the heinous crime to the bookshop, that was till I took a closer look and realised it was the author's autograph 😅.
Look girls, Mama 'drew' in 20 copies of her book 😁
4) Watch out for giveaways on social media
We've tied up with prominent parent bloggers (many whom I'm fans of and had followed their social media for a while!) for reviews and giveaways. So if you want to know their thoughts on the book and win copies of My BFF is an Alien, do follow my Facebook page @VivianTeoAuthor and IG page @VivianTeoWriter. I'll try my best to point you to the giveaways when they happen!
5) Book signings?
I've been getting questions on whether I'll be doing any book signings or events soon. It's not the easiest to plan this now due to the virus (the timing can't be better huh...sigh...) but we're working on it and once there are more definite plans, I'll update immediately!
Well, that's all for now and I hope to update again on the latest happenings with my book very soon! In the meanwhile, stay safe and vigilant on personal hygiene, ya? 😁
