Here's a fun indoor activity with magic markers - perfect for kids when staying home on a rainy day!
I have seen videos online of magic marker drawings that float on water and have been wanting to try that with the girls. Then the girls got them as gifts from my brother! Hooray!
Here's a video of us sending our drawings into the water after drawing them on ceramic spoons with dry erase whiteboard markers:
Looks simple enough? There's really a learning curve to this. We had a few fails when we just started. But the main things to note are:
1) Draw gently on the centre of the spoon (not the curved sides!) so the drawing can slide off when in water.
2) Keep your spoon horizontal when lowering into the water - the drawing won't slide off if you do it vertically. When you first lower the spoon, sometimes the drawing does not slide off. But you just need to do the above step again and the drawing should slip off on the second try.
3) Use a wide and deep basin/bowl so there's enough space to lower your spoon and your other floating creations don't get accidentally stuck on your hand/spoon.
4) Thin lines (like our stickman below) tend to disintegrate so draw bigger/thicker objects.
My brother bought this online from My Mommy's Magic. One set comes with 12 coloured markers, a ceramic spoon and detailed instructions on how to use the items.
But it's not cheap really - around S$30 per set. You can search for cheaper markers on Lazada/Shopee though reviews are mixed and not all markers work - we tried with a marker at home and the ink just dissolved in the water 😅 You should look for dry erase whiteboard markers and fyi, the brand of markers we used is Kicyn K-886 😉
This is a great indoor rainy day activity for kids - hope you'll have fun with it! 🤗
