With shocking secrets and gripping suspense, The Reappearance of Rachel Price is another intriguing mystery by Holly Jackson.
After reading Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I had to get her latest work, The Reappearance of Rachel Price from Experal Singapore - I’m glad to say this is another exciting page-turner.
Rachel Price disappeared one day, leaving her two-year-old daughter, Bel, in the car she was driving. Sixteen years later, Bel’s family agree to a TV documentary about Rachel’s disappearance. Then Rachel suddenly returns to town. Suspicious of the mother she hardly knows, Bel starts poking around to find out what really happened to Rachel. This eventually leads to shocking secrets that put Bel and her loved ones’ lives at risk.
The plot is intriguing and had me speeding through the pages. While Bel is not a likeable character, the story written from her point of view ups the suspense and will have you questioning Rachel’s reappearance and motives. The truth revealed in the end is shocking but the resolution does feel a tad exaggerating and rushed. Still, this a good mystery on the whole and I would recommend this young adult book to teenagers and adults who like mysteries and thrillers.
